History of Faculty of Science and Technology, Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University

Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University was firstly established as “Nakhon Pathom Teacher Training School for Girls” in 1936 at the registration hall of Nakhon Chai Si District. It was located at 86, Thesa Road, Phra Pathom Chedi Sub-district, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province. The school admitted only girls for local teacher training course. Later in 1960, it started admitting boy students to study together with the girl students, opened the certificate of education, and began local teacher training project. In 1968, the school was renamed “The Nakhon Pathom Teacher Training School”. Then, on January 16^th, 1970, the school was promoted to Nakhon Pathom Teachers’ College, and began the high certificate of education. The faculty of Science and Technology, at that time, was Science Program which comprised science, mathematics, home economics, agriculture, handicraft education, health education, and physical education major. In 1975, the Nakhon Pathom Teacher College was administrated under the Teacher Colleges Act 1975. It changed its roles and structure to be more as a higher education institute. As it specified in Section 5, “the Teacher College shall be an institute for research, producing bachelor degree teachers, encouraging academic status of professional teachers and educational personnel, conserving art and culture, and giving academic services to communities.” After the College was set for 5 years, it was reorganized and expanded its roles from the date the act was issued. The College was divided into three faculties: Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Technology. The Faculty of Science and Technology, Nakhon Pathom Teacher College was comprised of 10 programs agriculture, chemistry, home economics, computer education, biology, physical education, physic and general sciences, health education, handicraft education, and industrial arts.

The faculty started 4-year bachelor curriculum in 1980. Later in 1984, the Teacher College Act B.E. 2518 was amended. Some sections were revised for better operation and response to society’s need. The essence of revision was in Section 5, it was specified that the Teacher College shall provide education in other fields, apart from producing teachers. In 1985, therefore, Associate of Science and Associate of Arts were commenced, divided into 5 majors: 2 Associate of Arts in Journalism and Public Relations, and Design, and 3 Associate in Science in Food Science, Plant Science, and Electronics. Additionally, the first bachelor program was operated, as well as started opening bachelor and associate degree under the education for in-service officer project.

Apart from the higher education, the Demonstration School was establish and first opened for 2 groups of students to study in grade 7 in English-Mathematics Program at D3 building. Moreover, the Demonstration School for Kindergartens was implemented since 1979 at a temporary building, offering pre-school and kindergarten 1-2 education. On February 14^th, 1992, King Rama IX was graciously renamed Teacher College “Rajabhat Institute”, and the Faculty of Science and Technology has implemented teaching and learning as follows:
